Wyche 100 Percent Panel Discussion

Wyche sponsored a panel discussion to explore how South Carolina can harness 100% of its citizens’ talents. The panel discussed the recent decline of female participation in the American workforce, cultural biases that both men and women face, underrepresentation of women in corporate boardrooms, and the importance of diversity in high-performing teams.

South Carolina Bar Convention “Best Practices To Improve Diversity” Panel

Wyche attorney Meliah Bowers Jefferson participated as a panelist in the South Carolina Bar Convention “Best Practices to Improve Diversity” discussion. The panel covered topics including, the business case for diversity; strategies for diversity and inclusion in the legal profession; the difference between sponsorship and mentorship; and leadership development and retention.

Wyche is involved in the South Carolina Women Lawyers Assocation (SCWLA). The SCWLA seeks to enhance the status, influence and effectiveness of women lawyers in the State of South Carolina. SCWLA will, through advocacy, action and association, take positive steps to ensure that women lawyers achieve their fair share of opportunities and benefits available to those in the legal profession.

Wyche attorneys have participated in the Riley Institute at Furman’s Diversity Leaders Initiative. Carefully selected, established leaders from all sectors of South Carolina society take part in the Riley Institute at Furman’s Diversity Leaders Initiative, a unique, highly interactive, multi- award winning program that imparts deep knowledge and skills to effectively manage and lead increasingly diverse workers, clients and constituents. DLI graduates become Riley Fellows, members of a powerful, cross-sector, statewide network, who gather at OneSouthCarolina®, the statewide gathering of Riley Fellows, to examine issues critical to the state and how they can drive positive change in the state. The Riley Institute also partners with Upstate chambers to recognize excellence in diversity leadership in the Upstate at an annual awards dinner.

Several Wyche attorneys have served on the board for the Urban League of the Upstate to support its mission to provide economic empowerment, educational opportunities and the guarantee of civil rights for the underserved in America.

Wyche is a founding sponsor of the Diversity Recruiting Consortium (DRC). The Diversity Recruitment Consortium is a group of organizations led by three sponsors – The Riley Institute at Furman, South Carolina Chamber of Commerce and Greenville Chamber of Commerce – working together to collectively develop innovative programs, practices and processes to increase the diversity of professional and executive talent in South Carolina-based organizations. Where traditional methods of recruitment may fail to adequately address candidate reservations about moving to the state, the DRC uses a more sophisticated recruitment style which offers a broader understanding of what our state has to offer for individual careers and lifestyle opportunities.

Several Wyche attorneys have participated in The Women’s Leadership Institute of Furman. The Women’s Leadership Institute of Furman is a premier professional leadership conference designed for women who have demonstrated successful leadership, community involvement, and have a desire to help others. This dynamic conference has helped women take control of their careers, become stronger leaders, and make significant contributions to their communities. Governed by an advisory board and selected from nominations, class acceptance is competitive creating a powerful network for participants.

Wyche received the Greenville Chamber’s ATHENA Organizational Leadership Award® in 2014. The award recognizes organizations with initiatives dedicated to creating cultures that encourage women employees to achieve their full leadership potential, and that give back to the larger community of women.

Wyche was honored by the Upstate South Carolina chapter of Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW) with its “Outstanding Leadership Organization Award” in 2013.
