Institute of Medicine and Public Health Columbia, SC (October 4, 2016)** — Columbia attorney [Inez Tenenbaum](https://wyche.wpengine.com/what/attorneys/lawyer/inez-tenenbaum/) will join the board of directors of the [South Carolina Institute of Medicine and Public Health](https://imph.org/), an independent entity that promotes nonpartisan solutions to health-care policy. The IMPH [describes itself](https://imph.org/about/) as “an informed, neutral, nonpartisan convener and provider of evidence-based information relevant to policy decisions and other actions impacting the health and well-being of all South Carolinians.” Tenenbaum will join a stellar group on [the board](https://imph.org/about/board-of-directors/), including such luminaries from different walks of life as Dr. Fred Carter, president of Francis Marion University; former Gov. Jim Hodges; business executive and former Spartanburg Mayor Bill Barnet; state Rep. Joseph Neal; and President Harris Pastides of the University of South Carolina. “We look forward to having Inez join the IMPH Board in January,” said Kester Freeman, executive director of IMPH. “Her collaborative spirit will be a valuable asset to IMPH and our work to bring together key stakeholders to improve health and health care in South Carolina. Through her local and national leadership roles working with issues that affect women, children and families, Inez’s unique perspective will enhance our efforts and allow us to continue to work with policymakers in effective ways.” This will not be Tenenbaum’s first involvement with the Institute. She was involved in the original meetings and discussions that put the vision for IMPH into motion, back in 2007. The Institute started as part of the Arnold School of Public Health at the University of South Carolina, and in 2011 became an independent 501(c)3. Tenenbaum served two terms as South Carolina’s state superintendent of education, and served from 2009-2013 as chairman of the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission under President Barack Obama.  She serves on the Board of  Directors for Safe Kids Worldwide, the Advisory Board for South Carolina’s Coalition for Mathematics and Science, the National Advisory Board for the International African American Museum, and is a member of the Southern Regional Education Board’s Early Childhood Commission.  Tenenbaum is a graduate of the University of South Carolina School of Law, and earned both a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Education degree from the University of Georgia. **About Wyche** Wyche is a full-service law firm that has practiced law and served the community for 95 years.
