Dinkins received her undergraduate degree from the University of South Carolina Honors College, from which she graduated *summa cum laude* with a Bachelor of Music degree in piano performance.  She earned her Juris Doctor degree from the University of Virginia School Of Law, where she was an executive editor of the *Journal of Law & Politics*.
