After DHEC Director Nominee’s Withdrawal, Agency Conducts Search for New Director

Welcome back! We were on blogging hiatus while our new website was constructed. We hope you enjoy connecting with us on the redesigned website and blog. Now, back to environmental news…

As we reported several weeks ago, the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) Board nominated Eleanor Kitzman as the agency’s new director. Before Ms. Kitzman’s final confirmation hearing before the Senate, however, she withdrew her name from consideration, so the agency is now conducting a national search for a director.

DHEC is working with a national search firm, Gomez and Associates of Chicago, to identify a qualified candidate. The agency is accepting applications for the position until March 26. A three-member selection committee of the DHEC Board, including Allen Amsler, Clarence Batts and Mark Lutz, will recommend finalists for the position by April 20. The board will send its nominee selection to Governor Haley by April 23 and to the Senate for confirmation by May 1. We will keep you updated as the search progresses.
