I recently read “Everybody Matters: The Extraordinary Power of Caring for Your People Like Family,” by Bob Chapman and Raj Sisodia. The book rejects the traditional notion that employees are fungible, to be managed and directed to maximize profits. Instead, it encourages a unique leadership style of caring about every individual, like we do in our families. The authors believe the results of showing kindness and creating trust result in higher employee engagement and, in turn, improve business performance. Chapman and Sisodia provide a refreshing approach to business management that focuses on the most essential element of any enterprise—the people in it.
