GREENVILLE, SC – Wyche has announced a partnership with Greenville Center for Creative Arts in the launch of the “City of Women” exhibit. The “City of Women” initiative is inspired by an article in the New Yorker in which author Rebecca Solnit reimagined a world in which cities routinely recognized notable women by naming community landmarks in their honor, a practice that is often reserved for prominent men.
The partnership is Wyche’s first Centennial Legacy Project. In celebration of its one hundredth anniversary, Wyche has undertaken this year-long initiative to celebrate and continue its history of legal and community leadership. Wyche will support projects across the state that advance the four pillars that have defined the firm and that continue to form its vision for the future: Advancing the Business Community, Societal Impact, Community Transformation, and Environmental Stewardship.
The “City of Women” initiative was originally developed and launched in Columbia, SC, to recognize the outstanding accomplishments of women in South Carolina. The Greenville Center for Creative Arts’ “City of Women” exhibit extends the initiative by highlighting valuable contributions women have made in the areas of healthcare and well-being, education, economic opportunity, science and technology, civic engagement, and arts and culture.
“We are excited by the intersection of the areas highlighted by ‘City of Women’ and the pillars that have defined the Wyche legacy. It’s important to understand and highlight the central role female leaders play in our firm and in our community,” said Tally Parham Casey, CEO and Chair of Wyche, P.A.
“Greenville Center for Creative Arts is thrilled Wyche has selected the ‘City of Women’ exhibit as its first Centennial Legacy Project. The firm has a long history of supporting women in business, in the community, and in the arts. We are looking forward to working together to advance the ‘City of Women’ vision, which seeks to champion stories of female leadership,” said Kim Fabian, Executive Director of Greenville Center for Creative Arts.
Investing in female leadership has been a focus at Wyche for decades. Almost 30 years ago, Wyche’s firm leaders began to actively recruit, support, and develop female attorneys to build a world-class practice that breaks down the barriers to women in the legal profession. The firm has further cultivated a culture of female leadership through its “Women of Wyche” affinity group, which focuses on promoting, sponsoring, and championing female talent at every level of the firm. Today, 60% of Wyche’s leadership team is female.
“Wyche feels a strong connection to the ‘City of Women’ initiative. Through our shared vision and combined commitment to promoting a more complete story of leadership, progress, and courage, we will empower, and acknowledge, women in their important to work to advance South Carolina,” said Meliah Bowers Jefferson, Shareholder, Executive Committee Member, and Chair of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at Wyche.
“City of Women” will be a free public exhibition available virtually and in person through the Greenville Center for Creative Arts Community Gallery from March 2022 – April 2022. For more information visit artcentergreenville.org.
