Former Federal Prosecutor Katie Stoughton Joins Wyche’s Appellate and Litigation Practice

COLUMBIA, SC (February 12, 2026) – Wyche, a leading full-service law firm with offices across South Carolina, announces that Kathleen (“Katie”) Stoughton, a former federal prosecutor in the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of South Carolina, has joined the firm as a Member in its litigation practice. Stoughton focuses her practice on complex litigation, appellate matters, and government investigations.

Before joining the firm, Stoughton served as Chief of the Appellate, Asset Forfeiture, and Financial Litigation Division at the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of South Carolina. In that role, she prosecuted a wide range of federal offenses – including fraud, money laundering, violent crime, and narcotics offenses – and she shaped trial and appellate strategy in numerous complex criminal and civil matters. She also directed appellate strategy across the District, oversaw appellate briefing and oral argument preparation, developed litigation guidance in response to Supreme Court and Fourth Circuit precedent, and led asset forfeiture and restitution litigation.

Earlier in her career, Stoughton served as Counsel to Senator Lindsey O. Graham on the Senate Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on Crime and Terrorism. She advised on constitutional law, immigration, and federal criminal law and assisted with the confirmation of federal judges, Department of Justice officials, and Supreme Court Justices.

Stoughton began her legal career clerking for judges on the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit and the United States District Court for the District of South Carolina. She earned her J.D., with honors, from The George Washington University Law School, where she was a George Washington Scholar and served as Senior Projects Editor of The George Washington Law Review. She received her B.S. in Chemistry and History, magna cum laude, from the University of South Carolina Honors College.
