COLUMBIA, SC (June 12, 2023) – Wyche attorney Matthew Richardson has been inducted into the South Carolina State University Thomas E. Miller Society. The Society recognizes cumulative philanthropy from individuals and organizations that demonstrate commitment to the university and higher education by sharing their resources. Richardson is regularly recognized as a top attorney in South Carolina. In addition to representing clients in some of the largest and most complicated litigation in South Carolina over the past 20 years, Richardson represents the foster care children in South Carolina, which has resulted in systemic reforms to increase safety and well-being. He also served as lead counsel in the state constitutional challenge to the South Carolina Heritage Act.
Richardson’s career includes landmark legal outcomes, which have included the largest minority owner oppression litigation in the state of South Carolina, the largest public utility rate case, the largest public corruption investigation and prosecution in a generation, statewide redistricting challenges, statewide consumer protection litigation, and a federal constitutional challenge to temporary rate relief after construction was abandoned on a new nuclear power plant.
Richardson is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and former chair of the South Carolina Access to Justice Commission, having been appointed by three chief justices. He is a graduate of Duke University and the University of South Carolina School of Law, which has recognized his professional and civic accomplishments with the Compleat Lawyer Silver and Gold Awards for excellence in the profession.
