COLUMBIA, SC (August 12, 2015) – The South Carolina Association for Justice (SCAJ) has honored Wyche attorney Matthew Richardson with the Honorable Matthew J. Perry Public Service Award. The Matthew J. Perry Public Service Award recognizes someone whose monumental sacrifice in the name of public service has, over the course of a career, made a significant difference to the community.
“Matthew Richardson embodies the ideals of the S.C. Association for Justice and remains dedicated to public service,” said Anthony Harbin, President of SCAJ. “When Matthew sees injustice, he seeks justice. He recognizes that everyone needs a voice, regardless of power or wealth, and Matthew strengthens the legal profession through his unwavering integrity in all that he does.”
In receiving the award, Matthew recognized the “giants on whose shoulders we all stand” and the many mentors and role models, including Wyche attorney John Moylan and Matthew’s mother and wife, who inspired him to serve others.
Richardson’s practice at Wyche focuses on civil litigation, and he has participated in cases involving minority owner oppression, consumer protection, voting rights, commercial law, copyright infringement, insurance bad faith, medical malpractice, and personal injury. His experience includes jury and bench trials, agency hearings and contested cases, class action certification determinations, mediations, arbitrations, and appeals. He serves as Chair of the S.C. Access to Justice Commission and is a permanent member of the Fourth Circuit Judicial Conference. Richardson is a graduate of Duke University and the University of South Carolina School of Law.
