The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) is proposing to amend regulation R.61-107.4, Solid Waste Management: Yard Trash and Land-clearing Debris; and Compost. The proposed regulation would allow companies to compost certain solid waste, address food waste through composting, and streamline the permitting process. The public comment period will be open until 5:00 p.m. on December 23, 2013. Interested persons should submit written comments to Jana White, Bureau of Land and Waste Management, S.C. DHEC will also host a public hearing before the Board of Health and Environmental Control on January 9, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. in the Board Room, Third Floor, Aycock Building of DHEC at 2600 Bull Street, Columbia, S.C. 29201.
