Darren Angell focuses his practice on sports law, advising clients on navigating the complex legal landscape of the sports industry. With a unique blend of experience in the legal field and sports business, Darren advises clients on matters such as Name, Image, Likeness (NIL), NCAA compliance, corporate transactions, dispute resolution, and strategic counsel for universities and athletic departments, coaches, administrators, and sports business professionals.
Before joining Wyche, Darren served as Chief of Staff for the Furman University Men’s Basketball program. At Furman, he oversaw all business operations, led the program’s NIL initiatives, and managed its VIP donor group. In his first season with the Paladins, they notched a school-record 28 victories—highlighted by an 88-79 triumph over Chattanooga in the Southern Conference Championship game—and a 68-67 victory over the University of Virginia in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. Prior to his time at Furman, Darren served in a similar capacity at Indiana State University.
Darren’s legal career spans over eight years in Chicago, where he represented professional basketball players and advised universities on NCAA compliance and eligibility matters. He also gained substantial experience in commercial real estate and complex corporate transactions.
Darren earned his J.D. from the University of Kansas in 2012 and holds a bachelor’s degree in Sports Business from Mercyhurst University, where he served as a team captain of the men’s basketball team and was the program’s representative to the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
