Inez Tenenbaum Receives Best Friend Award from Kids in Danger

Article from Kids in Danger

Each year, KID commemorates our progress, honors the memory of Danny Keysar and other victims of unsafe children’s products, and highlights the contributions of our Best Friend — someone who has helped keep children safe.

KID is delighted to present our 2014 Best Friend Award to Inez Tenenbaum, former CPSC Chair, for her strong voice for children’s product safety.

Tenenbaum was nominated in 2009 by President Barack Obama and has led the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) since then. During her tenure at CPSC, Tenenbaum oversaw the implementation of Congress’ 2008 Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA), which included the requirement of mandatory standards for a number of infant and toddler durable products. That section was named after KID’s founders’ son, Danny Keysar and is often referred to as “Danny’s Law.” Further, she helped to ensure that as of 2011, all cribs sold in the US will have to meet some of the toughest crib standards in the world.

Consumer protection has always been at the foundation of Tenenbaum’s career of service to children and families, and her efforts have greatly improved the safety of children. We honor her with the Best Friend Award on May 14th.
